Meet and share

We leave to the discovery of Nuku Hiva with several stops around the island... most of the bays West and North are wild, rarely inhabited but sometimes in the heart of the Valley a Fare popped up in the middle of coconut trees.

Tuesday, August 1: Hakaui

Again Hakaui help Kua and Teiki in their small plantation.

You don't get tired of these landscapes

The entrance in the lagoon is going up the river... and at low tide there is not a lot of water.

But the efforts were quickly rewarded...

the tranquility that reigns.

A few steps away there is the House of Kua waiting for us with fresh lemon and fruit juice.

The Orchard is all around us

And Teiki is already at work for a long time until its immigrant work force

Clearing begins. Some cut...

Of other burn... plant pineapples... prepare a patch of Earth and plant is ginger.... others repair the generator... A nice morning that ends around a couscous prepared by Kua.

Friday 4 August: Anse Uea (Bay Marquesan)

It is a Bay not mapped, but the weather is beautiful and the Sun high in order to move forward without risk up in front of the beach and ask anchor in 5 metres of water. The Bay is not accessible by land, and our neighbors are roosters and goats. Landing is easy.

Behind the Pebble Beach a small lagoon lined with vegetation. We are trying to push us into the Valley, but soon the branches are too dense to let us pass

It will be a scramble in the rollers.

Saturday 5 August: Bay Haahopu

As soon as Tao's wet safe we are to water to swim to the beach of yellow sand.

Three families camp along the beach before the resumption of school the following week. Quickly a "Kaoha" (Hello) continues with an invitation to share lunch with James and Tiffany. To the menu seafood caught the day before, grilling and salad prepared by Nathalie.

We bring the whole family on Tao for coffee... what makes the joy of children.

It's a full moon and dark James taking me fishing for seafood on the rocks. We bring a bucket full of 'mama', porcelain, small crabs and sea urchins pencil.

The next day, equipped as it should, We simply us the legs along the track that leads to the airport.

Thursday 10 August: Bay Hakaehu, Valley of Pua

We continue our journey to the Valley of Pua, and take this small navigation to put the lines in the water. The first key is the head of a tazard Philippe back, a little thin as lunch...

but got us lucky in the space of a few minutes two beautiful bonito are on board.

We come in the face of a beautiful sandy beach lined with coconut trees, with backdrop of the verdant Valley of Pua.

No other boat is wet, This fact, since 1 week we didn't cross anyone.

Once on the ground everything is peaceful, We see a white roof, It is the home of Germain and Marina.

The place is peaceful and quiet, horses,

foals...

Bulls ,cows, dogs, cats, Roosters and pigs in semi liberty seem to live in harmony and are rather curious of our presence.
 
Germain and Marina opens their home warmly. We share lunch and bring the bonito fished the same morning. Germain cook with coconut milk, lemon and ginger, then marina debones the Mei (fruits of breadfruit) Fried way and puts a fillet of beef on the grill. We enjoy and spend a good time together!
The nearest Baker is more than two hours of track... not easy to get fresh bread!  Then the next day it's workshop bakery in the Valley of Pua. For once we are pleased to share some of our experience with Marquesans who are always so generous with everything they have. We bring the natural yeast that we maintain for more than two years. Under the eye benevolent Philippe Germain kneads his first bread with a lot of concentration. It must be said that, even if we get out of table, the idea of having fresh bread in a few hours is motivating!

No photo... but once out of the oven bread is huge and delicious. Without further ADO, Germain prepare sourdough for another the next day. This place is a haven of peace, feels good... and we will come back!
